Footy – let the season begin! March 28th 2009 Rnd 1
The NWPAF Season gets underway this weekend, and if you haven’t heard, the BC Footy League has expanded to 5 teams!
This season will see the introduction of the North Delta Bay Hawks and the Irish Harps. They will join last year’s newcomers the West Coast Saints and the veteran teams of the Burnaby Eagles and the Vancouver Cougars!
Saturday 28 March, 2009
Cougars v Eagles 2:00PM – 3.40PM
Saints v Harps 3:45PM – 5:25PM
All Cougars players need to arrive no later than 1:15PM
Both games are at UBC next to Thunderbird Arena, where we played in the Grand Final last year. After that, off to Mahoney’s for a few beers.
St. Patrick’s Day Gaelic Football Game CANCELLED
GAELIC GAME IS ONLY CANCELLED – TOO MUCH RAIN
We will be continuing the BC Footy tradition of having all teams march in the St. Patrick’s Day parade.
The parade attracts thousands of spectators, and is a great place to kick a few 50m bombs down Granville St and promote our sport.
Location: Downtown – Georgia and Broughton Street (new 2009 meeting spot).
Time: Sunday 15th March @ 10:45am (Parade starts at 11:30am)
All marchers will be wearing their affiliated footy jumpers and will be free to kick the footy as we walk – in front of around 125,000 people!
After the parade, we will be heading to Brockton Oval in Stanley Park for the traditional Irish vs Aussies game of Gaelic Football. The Irish beat the Aussies on Australia Day at AFL, so it’s time we turn the tables and beat them at their own game!
All are welcome, even if you haven’t played Gaelic Football before. It is very similar to AFL, just a little less contact and a different shaped ball.

Australia Day Saturday Events

Just a gentle reminder that this coming weekend the BCfooty combined team will be playing against the Irish sports club team at our regular UBC sports fields. The game starts at 2pm and all players are asked to be at the field no later than 1:30pm. The field is located next to the ice hockey field off Wesbrook Mall – easily accessed by bus!

The aftergame festivities will continue at Mahony’s Bar and Grill (UBC). Last year was a fantastic day/evening and this year is destined to be even better. For $20 you can indulge in a dinner of Prawns, Lamb Chops, Snags (sausages), white buns, scalloped potatoes, salad and a lamington!
At the door the first 100 entrants can purchase a VB/Lamington/Red Bull Numbered Hockey Puck! for $10.
Red Bull are putting on a great afternoon/evening where they are televising live the Crashed Ice event from Quebec City! If your puck has the winners number on it…..you will win a spectacular prize.
Throughout the evening we will also be raffling off some great prizes!
Finally – Aussie Music, Bundaberg Rum/VB, and Aussie wines will be on special!
