VAFC Club Rooms – Luxury or Ludicrous
An unnamed source has confirmed the latest of a series of unusual events surrounding the Vancouver Australian Football Club is true and should be considered reality. Talking through a masked telephone line the source confirmed being involved in the finishing tiling of the secrative VAFC most recent purchase – an alleged building with the exterior looking more like a shed or garage than an exquisite “club room”.
Speculation has been rampant regarding the VAFC owned building but our source has now confirmed that it is not simply an equipment storage facility but rather a front for a substantial clubroom facility.
City of Vancouver officials could only confirm that building permits were registered and paid in full to develop the site. They would not divulge the site plan details under the “privacy act”.
However, our source has provided photographs outlining the two story building.

As can easily be seen the original construction seems very basic but now the finishing touches are being completed it is evident that the VAFC is not afraid to spend some serious coin.
VAFC 2008 Committee Member Rob Edmonds confirmed that the entire clubroom development has been fully approved by the board at every stage of construction. However, it appears that some serious funding has been stimulated from outside sources perhaps sympathetic to the VAFC’s plights.
Our pictures clearly demonstrate the luxurious nature of the building. While still unconfirmed it appears a room dedicated to the VAFC abundant trophies is already being filled.

The upstairs section is well suited to a more relaxed environment where members can even ascend further up the stairs to the balcony lookout/BBQ area with panoramic views of Vancouver’s downtown.

While the ground floor has several sectioned areas including the Cigar Room, The Whickey Room and the Team Media Room – an area specifically developed to show replays of all VAFC games it is clearly evident that some areas will be for players only.

Current VAFC President Anthony Cooper would not confirm the Grand Opening Gala event supposedly scheduled for the evening after the opening Cougar game for the NWPAFL.
Cooper did remark however, “we are all very cognizant of the push in Vancouver for the fast approaching 2010 Olympic festivities and we (VAFC) want to be certain of capitalising on this world focussed event. Yes, we have been pushing hard to get the club finished prior to the start of the 2009 NWPAFL season! We may not be offering the most lucrative player contracts in the league, we may not have all our club officials listed on payroll, we may have held back on preseason training expenses but my goodness we are not going to be stingy when it comes to making everyone in the club having a little place to call home! Our clubrooms will no doubt attract new players but more importantly new spectators and therefore paying members! Who wouldn’t want to hoof down a pepper steak pie, while washing it down with a Russell Beer and listening to the sweet commentary of another Cougars footy game shown on our LCD screens while sitting in a comfortable leather recliner…really it will just be like being at a club in Australia somewhere ……but we are adament we will not be adding VLT’s. That is something the Board unanimously voted against”
Just how successful will these clubrooms really be in attracting new players and supporters to the VAFC establishment – only time will tell!
